Like what you’re up to.. a ton.. I’m curious what application you’re using re Video Editing of course

Your imagery is from ? .. always glad to help out ! Would love to see someone musical utilize the graffiti docu

and/or urban abstracts I’ve collected over the years.. haha.. my son’s too busy editing ! Not to mention their 2 little kids !

If you need a Guest sometime.. no prob - Yes I design/build soundtracks re my Motion Picture Productions..

but aside from VJ & DJ in my past - don’t play a lick of music .. nor can I draw or paint a lick ! 🦎🏴‍☠️🎬

Thank you so much, Thomas!

I am using footage from Canva, as well as using Canva to design the video. I then import it into iMovie to finish it off. :)

"Yes I design/build soundtracks re my Motion Picture Productions.."

Wow!! That's awesome. What gear/software do you use?

.. haha.. though still ‘a shooter & forever so - am essentially Conceive/Write/Design driven & thus ‘The Creative Workflow’ hardware = an IPad 4th Generation - am attempting mainly now - ‘to paint ‘Stories with Ideas, Memories via Words .. & support Imagery

I use an App named ‘BEAR’ for much of my writing - yet Substack itself is where I’m Revising / Adapting my current ‘Great Canadian Production.. Have ‘Ported Over’ (auto correct just changed Ported to Pirated !?!) my Previous Attempts from Bear & Word or Emails - notes on napkins or or just screenshots or shooting hard copy or artifacts..

Nobody ever accuses me of being a stickler for astonishing technical Rules or Whatever - am far more known for pushing the edges - survive - indeed thrive - by accomplishing the ‘mission’ .. get it done - make it ‘pro .. will add a 2nd Reply that actually tries to answer your question re Gear/Software & ancillary Stuff .. the ‘glue that pulls it all together.. but will tell you .. ‘learning about Sound & Soundtrack & Music & SFX & Ambience was an insane Challenge I encountered with my Shiny Dreams of becoming a ‘famous’ & successful Feature Film Director.. ! 🦎🏴‍☠️🎬

Reply #2 - Canon - Mac - Adobe - Final Cut - Quark - Epson - LaCie - Fuji - Apple - Microsoft - Sony - Rank-Cintel - Kodak - Zeiss - Linhof - Nikon - Sennheiser .. are you getting the picture ? Delivering the Product currently.. without a dime to my name.. just debt really stimulates ‘creative and/or Lateral Thinking Solutions eh !

Fortunately.. my son & silent partner is a crack in house Video Editor with a top International Ad Agency.. as I fall behind ‘technically only’ - he leaps ahead - my Love is wrapping up her astonishing Musical endeavors & Career May 23 @ Massey Hall .. and neither of us are capable of truly comprehending what each other ‘actually does’ - to do what we’ve Done.. haha.. she’s ’retiring & I’m just gettin warmed up .. & ‘re-inventing myself.. one last time ..

I started into Motion Picture via workshops - camera / mobile & studio production as well as joining Artists Editing Coops etc.. PA.. Boom Man - so I could see & hear everything & was a pest at The National Film Board then a trusted Sound Recordist - all this while shooting on assignment - anything & everything - anywhere.. and ‘the beat went on.. and on.. I was actually Canada’s First VJ - in Banff while DJ’ing to get by. as Silver City was opening - downloaded & taped via satellite from MTV & sync’d many to my set playlists etc.. but I’d long since been exposed to Interactive Media prior to Moses Zneimer sniffing around & getting Much Music on air..

Cutting short here.. aside from the complexities of MultiMedia or HyperMedia.. I adhere to Classic Cinematic Editing - old school.. Same re Sountrack.. Yes.. have a great love for ‘layered & or granulated transitions.. Iconic Imagery.. Motivated Lighting or better still.. Ambient Light that slays !.. And whatever Technology - whether skateboard dolly, or Stock Sound Effects CD’s or MPG encoder or Rectilinear Corrected Lens or Zoom Digital Recorder gets the Job Done.. gets dialed into my Workflow .. and as most clients will recall.. that old Film Clapper Board.. sure gets people’s attention ! And don’t they adore it when I ask them if they’d like to ‘make the call to Roll Camera(s) & Sound - please ! And ‘slate the take, thanks.. & clap it ! 🦎🏴‍☠️🎬

WOW!! Thank you for sharing all of this with me, Thomas! That's quite the background of experience you have acquired.

"I was actually Canada’s First VJ"

That's a great claim to fame. 'Old school' and clapper boards are the best. :)

Iove it; it is ethereal. This is your song, but it reminds me of The Alan Parsons Project, a British band way back. Similar vibe. Anyway, great song. Continue exploring this path.

First of all the video is fantastic.

You have all the visuals perfectly lined up with certain sounds

or transitional moments in the song that fit perfectly

I love the simplicity of it

And the overriding sound that is playing through and over you.

Is quiet at the right time and changes at the right time. (my idea of "right time")

it has just the right amount of variation.

I love it.

I was so taken to it I ran to search for "how to make music videos". Then I saw you mentioned that you used Canva and I Movie....do you have to have an apple phone to use I-movie? I may be calling that the wrong thing. But anyway, it is great.

I have a pro-membership to Canva, which I use for designing all my videos, but also my thumbnails, or images for Substack posts, logos, etc...

It's easy to use and has a wide variety of templates. It will store all your work and edits as you go, storing all your work right on their site, so I can choose to work on my desktop or my laptop. Once I design the video in Canva I import it into iMovie.

And iMovie is on my laptop only (macbook air) because my iMac's OS is too old to use iMovie.

I use iMovie for adding a good quality Mp3 to the video once it's made in Canva, (because Canva compresses the audio too much) and then export it into as high a quality as I can!

Expand full comment

Thank you for explaining that to me. I would not be able to use Imovie , I think. But that's cool. Maybe I can find an alternative method. anyway, it's awesome. It looks and sounds perfect. I kind of ran in circles after I saw it. I must figure this out :) Keep on inspiring me. You are doing great work.

Oh wow....you making videos with your AI prompts could actually be the thing that does me in. You should try Canva. They do have a free option, though less stock footage to choose from.

"Keep on inspiring me. You are doing great work."

It's my honour and pleasure, Amy.

<<<bows her head, humbly, with a single sparkly tear of joyful gratitude sliding her cheek>>>

I will sleep like a baby tonight....dreaming of new things to create to inspire you to create new things to inspire me! xo

I read this yesterday but I have been on a big job the last two days. Taking the weekend off. I just loved this. Thank you. :) I will try again this week with recording. I couldn't do it, too many people using the fellowship throughout the week. I had no idea there was so much scheduled. I will try again next week. I will not relent! I cannot. As long as you are here sharing your excellent work, I am pounding my foot into the ground in angst. I WILL RECORD! Dag nabbit :) One way or TA udder.
